The ideal foundation shade for mature skin, in particular, is a shade that closely matches the chest to avoid looking two-toned and aging the skin's look.

The chest is often the darkest in colour compared to that of the neck and face due to sun damage.  

Choosing a foundation that is lighter than your chest (or neck, if you don't expose your chest) can be too light and will highlight pores, wrinkles, and dry patches. Light shades make things appear bigger, so to avoid emphasising these imperfections, opt for a foundation shade that is as dark as possible without looking unnatural.
